Statement of Objection to Gambia’s Submission of Evidence, Using Images of Buddhist Monks as Indecent, to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)
Date: 14th January 2026
A Myanmar delegation led by U Ko Ko Hlaing and Dr Thida Oo is currently in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to address the case filed by Gambia against Myanmar. On 12-1-2026, the Gambian side submitted statements from an unverified Facebook page as evidence, which is seen as a very low-level act.
In addition, the Gambian side’s presentation of evidence, which includes the religious venerated figures of the Myanmar people, the Sitagu Sayadaw and the nationalist leader U Wirathu, as extremists, is seen as an act of insulting not only the image of Myanmar but also Buddhism.
The meaning of the word extremist in their understanding assumed as that of Islamic extremists who commit acts of violence targeting and brutally killing people of different faiths.
Gambia will not be able to understand that Buddhist religious monk leaders care about peace and harmony acting with love and compassion. Labeling such religious leaders as extremists is a clear sign that the exiles and the traitors are working closely together with Gambia.
The Nay Pyi Taw National Organization thus issues this statement strongly condemning the actions of the media, using the financial support from the OIC, using fake ethnic names that do not exist in Myanmar, the political scounders and Gambia which receives such helps and committing acts of insulting the image of Myanmar and Buddhism.
